It is from the regeneration of the first plot, less than 2 ha, that the first wine – Saroto is born
História
Arribas Wine Company
The Arribas Wine Company project started in 2017, when Frederico Machado and Ricardo Alves decided after several national and international experiences that the time had come to develop a more personal project that reflected their philosophy. The search for diversity and for a spot with unique characteristics, took them to Bemposta, a village in the municipality of Mogadouro, land of the grandparents of one of the founders. In this place they found very old vines, some of them abandoned due to the age of their owners. It is from the regeneration of the first plot, less than 2 ha, that the first wine – Saroto – emerges.
If Saroto is the Trás-os-Montes word for animals without a tail, the lizard intends to be the image of the capacity for regeneration, trying to demonstrate the will to recover part of the wine heritage, meanwhile turned to abandonment.
Tinta Gorda, Malvasia, Bastardo, Verdelho, Rufete, Bastardo Branco, Verdelho Vermelho, Tinta Serrana, among others to be identified, high altitude vineyards, wide variety of soils and exhibitions, traditional and sustainable viticulture, minimal intervention winemaking are the project’s guiding principles that seeks to raise the full potential of the Arribas do Douro.
