In 1876, the Casa de Paços wine received its first prize at the International Exhibition of the Centenary of the United States of America, which took place in the city of Philadelphia.

The Casa e Quinta de Paços probably owes its name to an old palace (lat. palatiu, also called lat. villa) from the time when the parish of Stª Eulália de Rio Côvo was a Roman spa resort. The estate of Quinta de Paços has about 200 hectares distributed over six different farms, five of which in the municipality of Barcelos and another in the municipality of Monção – Casa do Capitão-mor or Quinta da Boavista (Mazedo).
